PENDLETON - A memorial service for Viola Jessie Gruver will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Pendleton. Burial will be held in the Olney Cemetery.

Ms. Gruver was born on May 31, 1914, in Pendleton. She graduated from Pendleton High School, completed beautician training in Tacoma Wash., and was trained at St. Anthony Hospital as an X-ray technician.

She retired from Pacific Northwest Bell after 29 years as a telephone operator. She moved to Portland in 1990.

Ms. Gruver enjoyed drawing, oil painting, making candy and wedding cakes and was involved in many church activities.

She is survived by daughter Deanna Faye Hoffman; son Douglas Eugene Gruver; two grandchildren; sisters Alice Cardwell, Beulah Chaney and Betty Fordyce; and brother Bud Reiman.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Pendleton.
