Death Comes To Bert Harsch, 87

George A. (Bert) Harsch, 87, 1301 Chester avenue, died at 7:25 a.m. today at the Good Samaritan home. He suffered a stroke February 24.

Mr. Harsch had been a professional ball player in the Three-I league and was a great sports fan. He formerly worked as a shipping clerk for the Walter T. Hall Co. and for the Tower and Major Co. and later was employed at the Palace pool hall.

He was born June 10, 1873 in Ottumwa, the son of William F. and Rosenna [sic] Pomroy Harsch. He had spent most of his life in Ottumwa. He was married March 9, 1898, in Ottumwa to Flora La Rue. She died April 27 of this year.

Mr. Harsch was a member of the Calvary Baptist church and a 50-year member of Pickwick Odd Fellows lodge.

He is survived by a son, Lloyd W. Harsch of Ottumwa; a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Barnes of Blakesburg; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Blakesburg with the Rev. Keith Knauss, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church, in charge. Burial will in the Shaul cemetery with Odd Fellows services at the graveside.
