Born February 1, 1929 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Harry I. and Frances L. (Stoops) Besecker. She was a life long resident of the Waynesboro area having attended Quincy Township schools.
She and her husband, the late Mr. Huber G. Mentzer, were married October 19, 1946 in Hagerstown, MD. They had lived at their current residence since 1947. He died December 10, 2003.
Mrs. Mentzer was a homemaker and had worked at Waynesboro Knitting Mill and Waynesboro Sportswear.
She enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with her dog, Droopy. She was known for her green thumb and for being a master of crocheting.
She is survived by two children, Rodney
A. "Bub" Mentzer and Barbara S. Wetzel, both of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Lois B. Rosenberry and Dorothy L. Harmon, both of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald H. Mentzer who died August 20, 1988; and a brother, Curtis L. Besecker.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Pastor Wilbur F. Besecker officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy.
