Mrs. Annie Jarrell, who was Annie Fletcher before her marriage was born in Rush county, Indiana and came to Kansas in 1856 in a covered wagon with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Fletcher. The settled near Monrovia. Annie Fletcher married Sanford Jarrell, who taught the first school at Monrovia. He served through the civil war with the second cavalry, and died in 1888. Two children, J. F. Jarrell, publicity agent of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railway and Mrs. Mamie Jarrell Lawless, of Atchison survived her
