Miss McCann was married to James M. Fletcher, a farmer, March 19, 1843. In 1857 they left Wisconsin with five children, starting overland for the Promised Land of Kansas. They had three wagons, one wagon was pulled by oxen, the second by mules, and the third by horses. They crossed the river at St. Joe July 3, 1857. She left Mineral Point Wis., May 15, and it was not until late in August that she had a roof to cover her head. They took a claim at Monrovia living in a log cabin, the cabin was only a temporary home and the family in a short time built a better house.
Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher came to Atchison in 1893, making their home in Park Place.
