Martina "Tillie" Baca, age 96, a life-long resident of the Tome-Adelino area, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, July 1.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomé, where she participated as a member of the choir, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Cemetery Committee, and served as a catechism teacher and Eucharistic minister.
For decades, Tillie worked throughout many local Belen businesses, including Becker-Dalies, Trembley's and Feil and Ellemeyer's.
While always signing her cards "Just Tia," she was more than just a great-aunt to her many children and grandchildren, for whom she possessed an enormous love. She inspired everyone with her faith, kindness and unrelenting humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Doroteo and Ramoncita Baca; brothers, Jose Maria I, Manuel, Louis, Juan, Antonio, Crestino, Jose Maria, Frank and Teito "Doroteo"; sister, Concepcion Torres; nephew, Eppy Torres, as well as several nieces and nephews and two grandchildren, Marcos and Alicia Sanchez. Although never married with children of her own, Tillie was a second-mother to her only sister, Chona's seven children: Teresa Rojas and her husband, Vince, Eppy Torres (deceased) and his wife, Isabel, Johnny Torres and his wife, Lenise, Ramon Torres and his wife, Anna, Connie Padilla and her husband, Henry, Cecilia Sanchez and her husband, Leroy, and Frances Sanchez and her husband, Robert. Tillie was also blessed with 21 grandchildren, Vicki, Stephen, Roberto, Rebecca, Paul, Jessica, Christopher, LeeAnna, Angelo, Maria Elena, Andrea, Jeremy, Joey, Jonathan, Janelle, James, Carlos, Felipe, Francisco, Ricardo and Monica and 17 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, Bethany, Benjamin, Erika, Kai, Kayla, Nehemiah, Concepcion, Elijah Jesse, Chase, Faith, Rebekah-Grace, Gabriel, Michael and Aimee. She is also survived by her brother, Odelio F. Baca and his wife, Emilia, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and Godchildren, whom she loved tremendously.
The family would like to extend a special and sincere appreciation to Isabel and her "angel" Rebecca Torres for all the help they so selflessly gave throughout the years. A special thanks to Padre Jose Hernandez and Ambercare Hospice nurses.
All services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomé, beginning with a viewing on Sunday, July 4, at 5:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Monday, July 5, at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Tomé Catholic Cemetery.
