EDWIN G. CLARKE.
Edwin G. Clarke, 84, of Boyce, once well known in this section of the state, died yesterday in an Alexandria hospital, according to information received here.
He was connected with the north Louisiana experiment station at Calhoun many years ago and spent 15 years in the Hawaiian islands as a sugar chemist.
Mr. Clarke is survived by his wife, the former Miss Florine Chambliss, a native of Monroe and a granddaughter of the late Colonel Isaiah Garrett who was a prominent attorney of this section of the state.
He also leaves a son, Captain Edwin Lee Clarke, graduate of West Point, now in Iceland; a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Moore of Baton Rouge and a grandson, Henry Lee Clarke of Columbus, Ga.
Funeral services were held here this afternoon about 3 o'clock at the Garrett plot in the Old City cemetery with Rev. A. M. Freeman, pastor of the First Methodist church of Monroe, officiating.
