Orangeburg - Amon Thomas, 79, a former owner and operator of Economy Auto, died Tuesday in a local nursing home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Thomas was born in Cope, a son of John H. Thomas and Blanche Bessinger Thomas. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and First Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Myers Thomas; two daughters, Patsy Judy and Gayle Hooper, both of Cope; two sisters, Nadine T. Walling of Maggie Valley, N.C., and Marjorie Duncan of Beaufort; a brother, Henry H.
