Henry was the husband of Maria Jane Bray Marley and the father of John, Mary "Polly", Anna, Elizabeth "Betsy", Archibald, Benjamin, Jane, and Jemima.

Henry Marley (born about 1760) and wife Jane Bray were in the Chatham, Randolph County, NC in the 1790 census. The family moved to Wilkes County, NC about 1800. In 1802 he bought 200 acres of land in Wilkes County from Isaac Teague. This land was adjacent to land owned by a John Marley (probably Henry's son). They stayed there until about 1817 when they came over the Cumberland Gap and moved to Lawrence County, Indiana along with the Barnes and Chapman families. He was in Indiana in the 1820 census. One of his sons, John, married Hannah Barnes on Nov 25, 1805 and remained in Wilkes Co. The children of John and Hannah were: Henry born 1809, married Jane Barnes, Elisha born 1810 married Mary ?, Jane born 1820, Andrew born 1823, Mary born 1825, John born 1831. (birth dates are approximate dates).

Revolutionary War Pension File number R6909 included a signed statement by Francis Dorsett and William Moore, that Henry served three months land service in 1781 under Col. Lutrell. This could have been under Col. John Lutrell of North Carolina, or Col. Archibald Lutrell, commander of an Orange and Chatham County regiment. Henry named one of his sons Archibald. In 1832 his application for pension benefits was returned, possibly not properly submitted. Henry Marley is included in the 1980 Volume II DAR Patriot Index, New Ancestor List. The DAR now recognizes Henry as a soldier.
