John F. Sexton born 1872, baptized first Sunday of April, 1896, and ordained as a deacon of Paint Rock Baptist Church the first Saturday in August, 1896; departed this life Dec. 23, 1910 -- killed in Paint Rock mines by an explosion. He leaves a wife and seven children. May they all prepare to meet and live with father in glory.


December 23, 1910 there was an explosion at the Pumpkin Hollow Mine #1 in Paint Rock. Three of Emanuel Sexton's sons were killed in that explosion. They were Monroe, John Freeman and William Sexton. It was reported that when the rescuers dug them out, the boys were virtually untouched by the debris. They had been killed by the high levels of methane gas in the mine shaft.
