Maurice Livingston Spain was the second child of Richard Reynolds Spain and his wife Jennie Fairhurst. He had two sisters: Vera and Margaret. Maurice's father left the family at some point, and he was then raised by his mother Jennie, Grandmother Mary, and Uncle John. Maurice worked as a grocery clerk. On November 28, 1906, Maurice married Alma R. Norcross who was an umbrella worker. They had two children: Dorothy m. Mr. Semple (1907-1981) and Florence (born 5/10/1910 m. August Krisher in 1931). On his WWII draft registration in 1942, Maurice was living at 4712 Leiper Street and worked in a garage.

Maurice in later life was an apartment superintendent. At the end of his life he lived at 1045 Bristol Pike. He passed away from a coronary occlusion in November of 1960 survived by his wife Alma, and is buried at Sunset Memorial Park.
