Elisha Major Ferry, the son of James Ferry and Rachel C. Bratcher, was born on March 25, 1854 in Grayson County, Kentucky. At the time of the 1880 Census of Short Creek, Grayson County, Kentucky his widowed mother Rachel Bratcher Ferry's family consisted of: Rachel, age 43; Elisha, age 23; Missouri A., age 22; Mary Elizabeth, age 15; Nancy L, age 11; and Redmond, age 3. Rachel's brother Jube Bratcher, age 35, was living with the family. All were shown born in Kentucky with their parents born in Kentucky.

Elisha M. Ferry was the husband of Nancy Ellen White, the daughter of John Rogers White and Catherine E. Stone. She was born on May 21, 1864 in Grayson County, Kentucky. They were the parents of the following children born in Grayson County:
