Stephen was the son of Joshua Jenkins and Cerrene Elder. He married Georgia Rozella Rogers 6 Feb 1887 at Marion County, Iowa and they had a daughter Mabel Jenkins (Mrs Lorin Hatch) born in 1897 and an infant daughter born and died in 1889 buried at Concord cemetery. His 2nd wife was Lucia. Stephen attended public schools and high school in Knoxville and ran a grocery store there for 2 years. He later farmed 180 acres in section 19 of Knoxville Township. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Knoxville and was buried at Graceland cemetery.
