She was born on April 26, 1942, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Clarence George Meadows and Mamie Blanche Jenkins Meadows.
Sylvia worked as a seamstress at Wrangler for 28 years and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Stanley.
On March 4, 1959, she married James Adolph Propes, who died on Jan. 13, 2004.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra J. King and husband, Johnny, of Elkton, Donna S. Pettit and husband, Ricky, of Stanley, and C. Gail Dallas and husband, Jeff, of Luray; three sons, J.A. “Jimmy” Propes II of Elkton, Christopher S. Propes and wife, Tammy, of Stanley and Michael T. Propes and wife, Michelle, of Luray; four sisters, Darlene Buracker of Stanley, Bonnie Comer of Stanley, Brenda Grimsley of Shenandoah and Sheryl Gray of Stanley; 10 grandchildren, Travis Pettit, Amy Housden and Amber Lloyd, Jeffery and Matthew Dallas, Whitney McQuillan and Aaron Propes, Samantha Southers and Chad Propes, and Sarah King; and three great-grandchildren, Rylan and Reese Housden, and Hayden Lloyd. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Dennis Meadows.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at the Fellowship Baptist Church by the Rev. Donnie Sherfey, Pastor Frank Painter and the Rev. Charles Turner. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah.
