FORMER LAND BOARD MEMBER AND PUBLIC WALES CITIZEN DIES

Thomas D. Rees, former member of the state land board, prominent in buisness, farming, political, civic and Church affairs of North Sanpete county for 30 years, died suddenly at his home here Saturday morning of appolexy.
Mr. Rees, son of T. D. and Margaret Jones Rees, was born in North Ogden, Oct. 17, 1857 and moved with his parents here in early boyhood.
He preformed a mission to Wales, Great Britain, 1880-1 worked in the Manti temple 1891-3 and was Sanpete county commissoner 1893-5.
He was appointed in the first state land board by Gov. Heber M. Wells and remained a member for 11 years. He was also a delegate to the Trans-mississippi Irrigation congress in 1896.
Besides being largely interested in farming and stockgrowing, he was a director of the Bank of Ephraim and Bank of moroni and president of the Wales Co-op store.
He was an earnest church worker and most members of his family performed missions. He was a member of North Sanpete stake high council at his death. A believer in education. He gave all of his children both high school and college educations.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth R. Rees, and the following chidlren; Dr. T. D. Rees, Jr., Dr. Byron Rees, Mrs. Ethel Dorius, Mrs. Dora Edmunds, and Mrs. George Ault, Salt Lake; Mrs. Florence Greenwood, Nephi; Mrs. Blanch Beal, Springville; Don M. Rees, Wales; also one brother, John D. Rees, Salt Lake. One son Dr. LaFayette Rees, was a victim of the flu epidemic in 1918.
Funeral services were held here in the Wales chapel for Thomas D. Reese, one of the earliest settlers of Sanpete County and one of the most prominent men of Wales. Music for the services was furnished by the ward choir and special musical numbers were furnished by Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Christensen of Moroni, Mrs. Kate Lamb, Mrs. Kate Lewis, P. D. Jensen and Vernon Reese of Ephriam and Mrs. George Johnson of Fountain Green. Prayers were offered by Bishop C. R. Dorous of Ephriam and Bishop Orlando Bradley of Moroni.
The speakers were bishop William Davis, Henry R. Thomas and Bishop Fred Major of Wales, president S. M. Nielsen of Mt. Pleasant, president W. H. Belliston, Judge Thomas H. Burton and J. E. Lunt of Nephi, Bishop P. D. Jensen and Professor W. G. Barton of Ephraim.
The services were largely attended many not being able to gain entrance to the chapel and the floral offerings were exceptional in beauty and lavishness.
Mr. Reese died Saturday having suffered a paralaytic stroke on July 25, sence which time he had never regained consciousness. Mr. Reese the son of Thomas and Margaret D. Reese was born in North Ogden 1857.
