He died, November 10, 1947, at the age of 78, in a Salt Lake City hospital of a heart ailment.
He graduated from the LDS college and for many years followed the teaching profession. He later entered the retail coal business and for a number of years was co-owner of the American Coal Co.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he filled a mission in Europe for the church from 1896 to 1898, during which time he was made President of the Scottish Conference.
Prior to his departure for the mission field, Randolph held a special Farewell Concert
in his honor.
After arriving in Edinburgh, Scotland, he wrote home to the Randolph Roundup weekly newspaper, asking them to publish his letter describing his trip there:

He was a High Priest in the Jefferson LDS Ward at the time of his death.
His obiturary states that on Jan. 6, 1906, he married Lillian Webb in the Salt Lake LDS temple. (A grandson of Malcolm's has confirmed that Elizabeth Susan Webb's nickname was "Lilly".)
Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James Devine, Riverside, Cal.; two sons, Malcolm N. McKinnon and Dr. F. Robert McKinnon, Salt Lake City; also the following brothers and sisters: Peter McKinnon, Ogden; Arthur McKinnon, Evanston, Wyo.; Ernest McKinnon, Randolph; Dr. Ben McKinnon, Morgan; Ray McKinnon, Manti; Mrs. Mary Reese, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Jan Morgan, Murray; Mrs. J. P. McComb, Mrs. Phoebe Robinson, Pittsburgh, Pr., and Mrs. Ada Morgan, Kaysville.
