Arnold was a son of John Luther "Luther" Alexander, Sr. and his first wife, Nettie Hatchell Alexander. Arnold Alexander was a farmer in the Lake Swamp community of Darlington County, and lived at Alexander Crossroads on State Road 340 near the cemetery in which he is buried. His widow, the former Maggie Mae Rogers continued to live at Alexander Crossroads until a few years prior to her passing. She is buried next to Arnold. Nettie is buried at nearby Lake Swamp Baptist Church's cemetery in Darlington County.
