MARKLEVILLE — The life journey of Florence E. (Rector) Moore started on Aug. 22, 1907, and ended on June 23, 2010. She was 102 years old.

Florence lived her whole life in Madison County, where she was one of five children born to Carl and Margaret (Black) Rector. She attended the local schools in Southern Madison County, graduating from Anderson High School in 1925. After high school, she attended Ball State to obtain her teaching license. Florence then returned to Madison County to teach in two one-room school houses, one located on 300 East, known as Bethel School. The other one- room school was located in Ovid. At a later time, she taught fourth grade at Fall Creek School located on 200 East for 20 years.

In May 1929, she married Wayne H. Moore, and they had three sons. During the time she stayed home to raise their children, she also found the time to help start the Home Social Home Ec. Club. The other organization that was a big part of her life was the Order of Eastern Star 363 of Markleville, where she was a 50- plus-year member and had been past matron and held the office of treasurer for more than 25 years. During her down time, she would do cross-stitching, crocheting, tatting and made many very beautiful quilts. Traveling also brought enjoyment to Florence. Wayne and Florence traveled to all the states and many of the Canadian provinces until his passing in 1968. After his passing, she continued to travel with friends and family, her last trip being to the southwest at the age of 98. She was also a Job's Daughters' Guardian in Markleville and a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority in Markleville.

She is survived by her sons, Harold Moore (friend, Joan Brumfield) of Markleville, and Ronnie (Alice) Moore of New Castle; grandchildren, Karl (Tina) Moore, Dianna (Randy) Short, all of Anderson, Jeff (Cindy) Moore of Brownsburg, Andy (Kellie) Moore of Elletsville, and David (Rozel) Moore of Keller, Texas; great-grandchildren, Amanda Short of Indianapolis, Randall Short of Anderson, Lauren Moore of Anderson, Josh Moore of Brownsburg, Brittany and Trevor Moore of Elletsville and Maggie and Ethan Moore of Keller, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Margaret (Black) Rector; husband, Wayne H. Moore; infant son, Willis Moore; brothers, Valorus, Maurice and Ralph Rector; sister, Eleanor Abshire; and daughter-in-law, Sammie (Philbert) Moore.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides with Saint John's Hospice, with special thanks to the aides, Sara and Patricia. A very big thank-you also to the angels (caregivers) here on earth who helped to make Florence's last year easier: RaeAnn, Sue, Allene, Chris, Patty and Phyllis.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, with an Order of Eastern Star service at 5:30 p.m.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the South Chapel with Chaplain Steve Cunningham and Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint John's Health System Hospice.
