Edward was born on Jul 4, 1870 in Daysville, Logan Co, KY. He was the son of Stephen Talkington (1783 in NC - Oct 1, 1859 in Van Buren, Crawford, AR) and Sarah (Sally) Acock (1784 in NC - aft 1850 in Van Buren, Crawford, AR). He moved to Hempstead Co, AR with his family when he was 18. His future wife's family was part of their wagon train (she was only 14). He married Elizabeth J Bland on Sep 9 1830 in Hempstead Co, AR. They had 11 children: Joseph (1831-1905), Mary Malissa (1832-1893), James Allen (1834-1867), Elizabeth Jane (1836-1897), Stephen jasper (1838-1863), Sarah Ann (1840-1903), Joel Dyer (1842-1926), John Wesley (1844-1863), Almira B (1846-1863), Eliza Martin (1848-1863) and Clementine Lucinda (1852).
After living for several years in Cane Hill, Washington Co, AR, they settled in Tomlinson, Scott, AR. Edward was a successful farmer and the first minister of the Coop Prairie Church in Mansfield. They were apparently pro-Union, in a southern state, and lost two sons, two daughters, and two sons-in-law during the Civil War. Edward died on Jul 4, 1870 in Mansfield, Scott, AR. Elizabeth died two years later. They share a headstone.
