Mary Malissa Talkington Looney was my Gr Grandmother. She was born on Dec 7
1832 in Cane Hill, Washington Co, AR. Her parents were (Rev) Edward Pennington
Talkington (Jan 27 1808, Daysville, Logan KY-Jul 4 1870 Mansfield, Scott, AR)
and Elizabeth J Bland (Jun 6 1812 Henry Co, KY-Apr 7, 1872 Mansfield, Scott,
KY). Her first husband was JJ Reed. He died during the Civil War leaving her
with three young daughters: Delina J, Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) and Georgie
Mattie. She left AR for MO and married a much older widower, Benjamin Mitchell
Looney (1797-1875) on Feb 20, 1865 in Looney, Polk Co, MI. They had three sons
in rapid succession: Benjamin Leonidas (1866-1947), Jesse Edward (1868-1958),
and William Stanford (1871-1941). Mary Malissa moved to Selma Co to join her
daughter Mattie Harris and her growing family in 1886, bringing two sons with
her. Mary died of a malaria-like fever on Dec 17 1893 in Selma, Fresno, CA.
Her aunt, Margaret Talkingtn Lester and other cousins are also buried in this
cemetery
