Ethel M. Hockenberry, 86, of Carlisle, died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, in the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Born on Oct. 31, 1922, in West Pennsboro Township, she was a daughter of the late Frank W. Mountz and Mary Keck Mountz Minich, and the widow of Vnaldra D. Hockenberry Sr.

Mrs. Hockenberry retired from the former C.H. Masland and Sons, Carlisle, and she was a 25-year club member there.

She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1299, a member of American Legion Auxiliary 101, VFW Auxiliary 477, all of Carlisle, and a member of the AARP.

Surviving are her two daughters, Sharyn L. (and her husband, Ed) Stum and Sonya L. Oliveri, both of Carlisle; her son, Vnaldra D. Jr. (and his wife, Sue) Hockenberry of Anderson, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was also survived by her longtime companion and friend, Ben Turner of Carlisle.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Jennifer McKenna officiating. Burial will be held in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. There will be a viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
