Marie Core Martin, the oldest surviving member of the Core family and a longtime resident of Fort Smith, passed away on June 16, 2010 in Greenwood, Arkansas. She was born May 15, 1920 in Paris, Arkansas the oldest of 11 children born to Julius Horace and Hattie Herring Core.

She graduated from High School at Branch, Arkansas and married Lee Kenneth Martin in 1940. She was a cook at Ballman School for years and finished her working career in Sales at Froug's Department Store. She was an excellent cook and loved to guilt.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth Martin, her parents Horace and Hattie Core and three brothers, Clayton, Robert and Walter Core.

She is survived by one son, Mickey Martin and his wife Carol of Greenwood, four sisters, Mary Campbell and husband Church of Ventura, CA, Louise Piestrack and husband Pete of Aberdeen, N.C., Eleanor Horne and husband Bob of Ventura, CA and Anna McCormick and husband Dwight of Stillwater, OK; three brothers, Dan Ray Core and wife Jean of Paris, Arkansas, James Patrick Core and wife Margie of Tulsa, OK and J.H. Core and wife Linda of Greenwood, Arkansas; two grandchildren, David Martin and wife Jena of Coppell, TX and Donald Martin of Memphis, TN and two great grandchildren.

Funeral service was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Pavilion at Caulksville Cemetery in Caulksville, Arkansas officiated by Reverend David Moon.
