ELI C BETTS: Keokuk; died Thursday[08-14] following a long serious illness. His health had been failing for the past 4 years; he had been bedfast since Mar of this year. His death was caused by a complication of diseases. He was born 20 Mar 1847 at Harrisburg PA. He married MissUrsula Spangler 9 Jun 1872 at Carthage IL after having lived in Carthage for about 2yrs. The family moved to Keokuk in 1892 & Mr&Mrs Betts have made their home in this city since that time. MrBetts was a member of First Christian Church.
MrsBetts survives her husband with children: MrsEC Kirkland-Keokuk; MrsAnderson-Peoria IL; MrsLR Lofton-Keokuk; 6 grandchildren; 1 bro: Scott Betts-NorthBend NE; & 1 nephew: Ben Betts-Keokuk. One dau-Grace Betts died at the age of 18yrs.
Short funeral services will be held from the residence Saturday afternoon after which the body will be taken to Carthage IL for burial in MossRidge Cem.
IL--Carthage Gazette 8/20: ELI died after 2yrs of invalidism. Betts & his bros were residents of Carthage for a number of years engaged in the horse buying & shipping business. Five daus were born: Leah(Mrs Johnson-now a widow); Grace-wife of Ed Haney died in 1893; MrsAlma Babb & MrsAda Anderson-both Peoria; & MrsHelen Lofton-Keokuk. Service was held Saturday.
