In remembrance of "Lizzie", my G1Grandma who was born to William and Jeanette Finlayson. Her parents set sail from Scotland in 1856 together with Thomas, Maggie, Isabella, and Jessie (Lizzie's older siblings). They settled in Yorkville (Bristol), and farmed. Lizzie and her sister Minnie were born and raised there. Lizzie married a school teacher/candymaker by the name of McKinley Harbaugh in 1883 and had 4 children: Florence; Loretta; Ralph; and Katherine. Lizzie and Mack moved to Rockford, IL and eventually to Kenosha, WI. Mack ran a candystore on Sheridan Avenue much to the delight of his many grandchildren. Mack passed away in the early 1930's and Lizzie came to California with her son Ralph a couple years later. They camped along the way. Lizzie was always conscious of not spending too much on food and when in a restaurant never ordered more than "a grilled cheese sandwich." Lizzie lived with her son Ralph and his wife Rachel until suffering a fall, breaking a hip, and passing away shortly thereafter. She is buried at Forest Lawn (Glendale, CA) in the Commemoration section, Sp 4, Lot 3218 (just across from the Court of Freedom). Lizzie, a simple girl from Bristol, IL is buried with some of the most famous celebrities in the world.
