Loretta was the eldest daughter of McKinley Harbaugh and his wife Elizabeth Finlayson. She had a brother, Ralph, and a sister, Katherine. The family moved to Pecatonica and later, Rockford, IL where her father taught school and was a confectioner. She attended the schools in Rockford. Loretta married Oscar Julius Kloer on December 18, 1913. Her husband was cellist and had a wonderful voice. At one time he was with the Redpath Chautauqua. She and Oscar had two sons: Oscar, Jr. ("Jay") born in 1917; and Loren Finlayson ("Bud") born in 1924. Loretta's husband died of a heart attack in 1935; she moved to southern California with her sons and other family members shortly thereafter. Both her sons served in WWII in the closing months of the war. Loretta lived for many years with her son Bud (who was afflicted with MS) in Santa Monica, California. Loretta lived to be almost 100 years old, passing away in 1986.
