She was born on January 9, 1917, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Maude (Frederick) Shanks; She was a Portage resident for 44 years; She was married on April 6, 1938, in Joliet, Illinois to William Hayes Else, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1970. She had been employed as a pricing clerk by the Goldblatts Department Store in Gary for 7 years. Surviving are 2 sons, Thomas (Ruth) Else of Portage and James (Joann) Else; 1 daughter, Linda (John) Bogdan of Shelby, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Clone (Ola) Shanks of Willowhill, Illinois; 2 sisters, Ellen Price and Hazel Williams of Lockport, Illinois; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday December 9, 1994 at 1 p.m. at Engel Funeral Home, with Pastor Barett W. Doyle officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
