CARYL, Merton L. Of Davison, age 82, died Thursday, January 11, 1996 at St. Joseph Hospital. Funeral service will be held 11AM Tuesday, January 16, 1996 at Allen-Raysin Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Rev. Bill Acton officiating. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Davison IOOF Vernor Lodge #400. Memorial service will be conducted by Davison IOOF Vernor Lodge #400 at 7PM Monday evening. Visitation 2-4 and 6-9PM Sunday and Monday.
Mr. Caryl was born in Davison Township, Michigan on April 12, 1913, the son of Frank and Ida ( Hullingshed) Caryl. He resided in the Davison area all of his life. Mr. Caryl married Margaret McMann on December 27, 1946 in Michigan. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army as a truck driver, a life member of the Davison Masonic Lodge #236 F.&A.M., a very active member of the Davison IOOF Vernor Lodge #400 and a member of Davison Senior Citizens. Mr. Caryl was a farmer and sheep shearer all his life, and was the State champion sheep shearer in the 1940's, retiring in 1989.
Surviving are: wife, Margaret; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Mark Zickefoose of Clarkston; 2 granddaughters, Lisa Milliman and Lesley Milliman, both of Davison; 4 step-grandchildren, Tony and Chris Moore of Arizona, Cindy and Theron O'Tool of Greenville, MI, Debbie Stockman of Lapeer, Kathy Moore of Greenville, MI; sisters and brothers, Avis Bache of Burton, Hugh and Pauline Caryl of Otisville, Alice and Douglas Stimson of Davison, Jerry and Betty Caryl of Davison, Joyce and Fred Caudell of Davison, Rev. Earl and Martha Caryl of Kansas City, Wayne and Dorothy Caryl of Arizona; several nieces and nephews.
