CARYL, Jerry D. - Of Davison, age 79, died Friday, November 23, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held 1PM Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Rev. P. Thomas Wachterhauser officiating. Burial at Davison Cemetery. Mr. Caryl will lie in state at the funeral home, where the family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-9PM on both Sunday and Monday. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Davison IOOF Vernon Lodge #400 at 7PM on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to IOOF Vernon Lodge #400. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mr. Caryl was born in Tuscola County, Michigan on October 29, 1922, the son of Frank and Ida (Hollengshead) Caryl. He resided in the Davison area all of his life. Jerry married Betty Fifield on January 20, 1945 in Davison and she preceded him in death on July 20, 1998. Mr. Caryl was Oddfellow of the Year and a member of IOOF Vernon Lodge #400, the Rebekah Ardell Lodge #214, the Lapeer Encampment #148 IOOF, and a Past Noble Grand. He was an inductee of the Davison Hall of Fame in 1998. Jerry was a life member of the Genesee County Soil and Conservation District, and had served as a board member for many years. He attended Davison United Methodist Church and the Davison Senior Center. Jerry enjoyed farming and sheep shearing for 62 years, winning many awards from the state as well as the Genesee County Fairs. Mr. Caryl is survived by: son, Jerry B. and wife Pam Caryl of Davison and their children, Jerry D. II and wife Tina, Wade D. and wife Jessica; daughter, Deborah R. Caryl and her son, Symeon (Sy); special children, Leland (Jo) Sayers of Knoxville, TN, Vernon (Shirley) Sayers of East Lansing, Flora (Paul) Walton of Davison, Burt (Peggy) Sayers of Lapeer; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Alice Stimson of Davison, Rev. Earl and Martha Caryl of Kansas City, Wayne and Dorothy Caryl of Arizona; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Trevor; sisters, Avis Bache, Joyce Caudell, Fern Sayers; brothers, Merton, Hugh, Dale, and Andy.
