William Hiram Chestnut was born in Taylor County, Florida on March 25, 1850. He was married to Miss Minnie Etta Hillyer, May 17, 1882. He was a member of Eliam Baptist Church at Melrose, Florida, before coming to Lakeland, Florida in 1900.
He was a charter member in the organization of New Home Baptist Church and suggested the name of "New Home" for same. He was an affectionate husband, a kind father, a good citizen and a faithful servant of the Lord, attending the services of the church even though he was more than 89 years old at the time of his death, November 8, 1939.
Surviving is the wife, nine children, thirty one grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Donovon.
