MRS. JAS. GREENLEE DEAD AT CALEDONIA
Well Known Resident Expired Friday At Ten O'Clock At The Home North Of Caledonia - Death Was Sudden And Unexpected
Mrs. James Greenlee died very suddenly Friday forenoon at 10 o'clock at her farm home, four miles north of Caledonia, from the effects of a stroke of apoplexy. The seizure came with no warning and within a very short time she had passed away. Her health previously had been good, and she had appeared to be ususally well up to the time of her demise. She had been one of a large company of relatives who were entertained on New Year's day at the home in Belvidere of her nieces, Misses Nellie and Elizabeth Greenlee..
Mention was briefly made yesterday that Mrs. Greenlee had passed away, but an error was made in giving the name, the information being that it was Mrs. Thos. Greenlee. Phone trouble made it impossible to reach Caledonia for particulars.
The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock at the home. The burial will be in the Argyle cemetery.
Mrs. Greenlee's maiden name was Miss Jane Brown and she was born in Cincinnati, O., August 27, 1843. She came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brown to this county when a child. Nearly her entire life had been passed in Caledonia township, and on the same farm ever since her marriage to Mr. Greenlee in 1865. He died in 1915.
She leaves two sons and two daughters. The daughters are Mrs. James Greenlee of Argyle, and Mrs. John A. Kelly, of Caledonia, and the sons, Ed Greenlee, of Poplar Grove, and Robert, who operates the farm and with whom his mother has made her home. There also remain the sisters, Mrs. Robert Harvey, of Bevidere; Mrs. Belle McDonald, Mrs. J. B. Ralston and Miss Susie Brown, of Rockford, and Mrs. Dan Kelly and Miss Martha Brown, of Lincoln, Neb., and one brothers, William Brown, also of Rockford. There are also twelve grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Jas. Smith, passed away in 1893
Mrs. Greenlee was a woman of a beautiful Christian character and she was beloved and esteemed in a wide circle of friends. Her departure from this life will be much deplored and the bereaved relatives will receive deep sympathy.
