Wayne did not start school until he was seven years old.

He finished ten years of schooling in 1912 and went to work on his parents' farm, with the exception of two winters spent in Seattle.

One winter he attended a business college and the other winter an engineering school.

On February 1, 1918 he joined the United States Navy Aviation during World War I.

He was trained at San Diego and then stationed in Killingholme, England, at the mouth of the Humber River on the North Sea coast, until the armistance was signed on November 11, 1918.

On February 5, 1919 he married Edythe Bassett Carrell.

Their two daughters were; Margaret Janet Talkington who was married to Ralph Cummings. Ralph was shot down and buried in Bremen, Germany. Her second marriage was to Reginald James Clizbe.

Their other daughter was Eva Joan Talkington, who married Grover Nobles. They were later divorced and she married Harvey Floyd Jones.

Wayne was appointed Postmaster of Harrington and in the meantime acquired several small town motion picture theatres in the area.

In the summer of 1940 Wayne and his brother Delbert entered into a partnership and purchased a farm 13 miles north of Pomeroy, Washington.

They later added to this farm until they owned two thousand acres of farmland and two thousand acres of pasture where they raised wheat and Angus cattle.

In 1947 he retired and purchased a home in Arcadia, a suburb of Los Angeles, living there until the spring of 1950.

Since he could not tolerate the city smog, they sold their home and moved back to Spokane.

In 1962 he purchased his brother Delbert's interest in the ranch for $25,000.

He was operated on for lung cancer in 1966 and had his right lung completely removed.

Again he retired and sold his farm.

He then started his hobby of genealogy and accumulated lots of information about many members of his family.
