Annabel Louise Benton Collins, 83, of Social Circle, died Wednesday, June 10, at the Walton Regional Medical Center in Monroe.

Mrs. Collins was born in Avon Park, Fla. to the late Herman Gay Benton and Sallie D. Ellis Benton. She worked as a secretary for the Deputy Chief of OSS during World War II. She and her late husband, Joseph Collins, returned to Jasper County in 1973 after living in Farmington, Mich. for a number of years. She retired as a bookkeeper from the Putnam State Prison in Eatonton. Mrs. Collins was a member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church. She was a former president of the Monticello Garden Club.

Her sisters, Julia Benton Shevlin and Sara Benton, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Baeder of Monticello; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Joseph and Blair Collins of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Mark Joseph Baeder, Jason Edward Baeder, Lauren Collins Fang, and Kristin Collins Simonetta; and sister and brothers, Betty Benton Hardeman of Monticello, John Benton of Milledgeville, William Benton of Brandon, Fla., and Harry Benton of Forest Park.

A graveside memorial service is planned Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 11 a.m. at West View Cemetery, with Dr. John Brown officiating. Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
