After the war, he and his wife, the former Leslie Combs Hudson,II settled in her home town of Carrollton, Carroll County, MO. There, Clayton went to work for his father-in-law and later bought one of his businesses. Clayton was an insurance broker, a real estate broker, and had his stock broker's license. He was very active in the town of Carrollton as a business leader.
