William L. Crossgrove, a lifelong resident of this vicinity died this morning at 7:45 o'clock at the family home two miles northeast of Brashear at the age of 71 years. Mr. Crossgrove had been in failing health the past several years with a liver ailment and on Monday suffered a paralytic stroke and did not regain consciousness.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock in the United Brethren Church, conducted by the Rev. Paul Thompson and burial will be in the Brashear cemetery. The body is now lying in state at the Easley Funeral Home.
Mr. Crossgrove was the son of John and Frederica Deets Crossgrove and was born March 7, 1870 on the old Crossgrove farm, and he resided all his life in that vicinity. He was married April 10, 1895 to Mrs. Morna Moore Woods, and four children were born to the union. Mrs. Crossgrove and all the children survive him.
The children are Mrs. Mary Jones of Little Rock, Ark., Charles L. Crossgrove of Freeville, NY, John M. Crossgrove of Independence, Mo., and Arthur L. Crossgrove of Brashear. He also leaves one step-son, Dale F. Woods of Freeville, NY; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Harms of Pullman, Wash and fifteen grandchildren. The late Jacob Crossgrove of Brashear was a brother.
Mr. Crossgrove was an active member of the United Brethren Church at Brashear.
The pallbearers will be Elmer Skinner, Clyde Payne, Albert Walters, Elza Walters, Norman Ornes and Elmer Patterson.
