Veteran Member of Odd Fellows.
George P. Weaver, pioneer miller and former local merchant, died at 1:00 yesterday afternoon at his residence, 2 West Commerce Street, from a complication of serious illness of two weeks.
Mr. Weaver had been living retired during the past five years, prior to which for 18 years he had conducted a general store on Sunbury Street, directly opposite the Washington school building and where his place of business was a mecca of school children and enjoyed large clientele from among neighbors. He was one of the community's most widely known and high respected residents, was a member of the First United Brethren Church, and of Lodge No. 664, I.O.O.F.
George Peter Weaver was born at Berrysburg, August 17, 1862, and was reared to manhood at that place. As a youth he learned his trade as a miller and for many years was employed in that capacity by the late William A. Reed at Shamokin rolling mils, near Paxinos. Retiring from active milling service he removed to this city where he engaged in business. He was married here to Miss Izzie Metz, a member of a pioneer local family, and she, with two daughters, Mrs. Hannah Rarick, of Massilon, Ohio, and Carrie, at home, survive. He was the last member of his family.
The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
