He was raised in Lyndon, had lived in Topeka for many years and had lived back in Lyndon for the last 20 years. Cotton served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 in Korea. He was a guard for the Department of Corrections in Topeka and he was the last original employee from the department.
He was an honorary member of the Lyndon Saddle Club and for 10 years he cooked for the Melvern Wildflower Ride for MOTDRA.
He married Roberta Smith, they later divorced. He married Marjorie Schoepflin Tyson on April 20, 1990 in Lyndon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Howard, Walter and Kenneth Vaughn, and three sisters, Opal Henderson, Edith Ball and Oneta Harkema.
Cotton is survived by his wife Marjorie of the home, a son George Vaughn, a daughter Angie McDaniel, a step son Martin Tyson (Debbie) of Topeka, a step daughter, Patsy Morgan (Travis) of Overland Park, a brother, Robert Vaughn (Darline) of Rantoul, IL., one grandchild, four step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Cotton will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to service time on Wednesday. Inurnment in Lyndon Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lloyd Vaughn Memorial Fund and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS. 66451.
