Robert Dean Vaughn, 81, of Rantoul passed away at 3:55 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 22, 2012) at Heartland Health Care, Paxton.

He was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Lyndon, Kan., a son of George and Myrtle (Wright) Adams. He married Darlene Wortman on March 2, 1958, in Glasscock County, Texas. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Peggy Stewart of Rantoul, Dean (Clara) Vaughn of Saint Jacob and Julie (Roy Roberts) Broadway of Rantoul; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Jason, Chad, Eric, Kevin, Evan and Christopher; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Isaiah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Robert graduated from Lyndon High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Army Airborne for several years and then entered the U.S. Air Force. He retired at Chanute Air Force Base after 23 years of service. He served overseas in Japan, Okinawa, Korea and Vietnam.

He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Rantoul. He coached little League baseball for several years.
