Leota Oliphant Hayes, 56, of Wichita, Kan., where she had resided the past five years, and prior to that in Shelbyville and Indianapolis, died Friday, Sept., at 3 p.m. in the Major Hospital in Shelbyville, having been in failing health for two years.
Mrs. Hayes was born July 23, 1927, in Decatur County, the daughter of Bert A. and Ethel Chloe Huffman Oliphant. She was married to Arthur R. Hayes Dec. 15, 1951, in Shelbyville, and he survives, and has worked at the Bemis Co. in Wichita, Kansas, the last 13 years. Their early married life they resided on North Carver St. in Greensburg. Mrs. Hayes worked at the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. in Shelbyville at one time.
She is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Janet) Collins, Shelbyville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Roscoe Oliphant, Denver, Colo.; two sisters: Elsie Sellers, Oregon and Alice Hess, Greensburg. She was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.
The services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, with burial in the Hebron Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Monday.
