Retired Janitor Dies At Juniata
William H. Wynekoop, a retired janitor in the Altoona School district and veteran of the Civil War, died at the home of G.W. Henry of 803 third ave., Juniata. Death was due to asthma. He was aged 75 years.
He served the Altoona school district for thirteen years as a janitor, being one of the first school employes to be retired on the state teacher employes pension plan. He relinquished his duties July 1, 1920. He was a janitor in the Franklin School.
Following his retirement he was employed at odd jobs and was a janitor for some time in the United Evanglical church special school. He was uneployed recently due to his health.
He was born July 15, 1847, in Wayne County, Michigan, entering the service of his country with Company E, 5th regiment, Michigan Volunteers, serving three years, six months, and twenty two days. After the war he came to Altoona and worked at Allegheny Furnace. He served on the city police force during the administration of Mayor Burchfield.
He was a prominent member of the Red Men Lodge in Blair County and active in fraternal circles. He is survived by two sons Charles of this city and Walter of Connellsville, and two daughters, Mrs. Homer Zeigler of Altoona amd Mrs. Walter Custer of Norristown. The remains were removed to the funeral home of Otto G. Gilden.
*Private funeral services for the late William H. Wynekoop will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Gilden Funeral Service Home on 8th avenue.
The services will be in charge of Rev. G. F. Snyder of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Private interment will be made in Greenwood.
