TEXAS RANGER

Harrison Lester Hamer was born August 15, 1888 to Franklin Augustus Hamer (b.1853, IL) and Lou Emma Francis, (b. 1860, TX) at Fairview, Wilson County, Texas. He stood 6 feet 2 1/2 inches tall, had blue eyes, light hair and a light complexion.

Harrison was a ranchman in Snyder, Scurry Co. Tx. He married Frieda Inez "Freddie" Rainey (b. 1892,TX) and raised seven children. He joined the Texas Rangers October 23, 1918--Dec. 31, 1919 (private, Co. F,)transfered to Co K, Jan 1, 1919 and reinlisted under the new law and transfered to Co. D, June 20, 1919, then resigned with an honorable discharge. Harrison worked as a stockman at Fort Worth, Tarrant Co. TX.

He was a Railroad Ranger for a short time from Oct. 2, 1922--Dec. 23, 1922, then resigned. He was then a brand inspector for the Sheep and Goat Raisers Association at Del Rio, Texas. He again joined the Rangers as a Special Ranger, April 9, 1927--April 1, 1928; May 1, 1928--May 1, 1929; August 22, 1929--August 22, 1930. Harrison was then discharged. Harrison Hamer was a brand inspector for the Sheep and Goat Raisers Association at Big Lake, Reagan Co., TX.

He was a Special Ranger Sept. 25, 1930, Jan 2, 1931. He was discharged--WA expired; Jan 3, 1931--Apr. 1, 1932. Placed on active duty, Regular Rangers, April 1, 1932--Jan. 18, 1933 (private, Co. D). Discharged. He was then a Peace Officer, in Del Rio, TX. He again, was a Special Ranger July 18, 1935--August 10, 1935. He was discharged and went to work in the Security Division, Magnolia Petroleum Company, Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas. He was once again a Special Ranger January 1, 1946--January 1, 1947.
Harrison Lester Hamer had been a deputy game warden, Scurry Co. TX. 1916--1917; Deputy Sheriff, bank guard, and Ranger in Eastland Co. TX, 1918. He was a Customs Inspector, Del Rio, Val Verde County, Texas, 1925. He was a brand inspector, Sutton County Livestock Association.

He was an Auxiliary to the Military Police at Magnolia Petroleum Co., Beaumont, 1942--1945. He retired as head of the security division, Magnolia Petrolium Company, 1953. He lived with one of his sons, C.P. Hamer, near Giddings, Lee County, Texas for the next 15 years. He then lived in Del Rio, San Antonio, Bexar County and Houston, Texas. He was living in Houston when he died, August 24, 1977.

He was buried in Del Rio City Cemetery.
