Mrs. Albert (Elizabeth) Backes, 86, died Sunday at her home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's and Paul's Catholic Church. The Rev. Landelin Robling will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Elizabeth Backes was born May 1, 1901, in Richmond to George and Rosina (Rausch) Egerman. She married Albert Backes Oct. 18, 1921, in Waite Park. She and her husband were lifetime farmers in Farming Township area, retiring in 1961. She was a member of Christian Mothers and Catholic Aid Society.

Survivors include daughters and sons, Mrs. Casey (Esther) Bien, Chicago; George and Eugene, St. Cloud; Mrs. Pat (Florence) Patterson, Spring Hill, Fla.; Mrs. Richard (Mildred) Schulte, Mrs. Ed (Irene) Plantenberg, Mrs. Roman (Imelda) Spaeth, and Mrs. Richard (Rosalie) Thomes, Richmond; Mrs. Robert (Joan) Gerber, Minneapolis; Mrs. Michael (Marie) Ebnet, Albany; James, Osakis; sister, Mrs. Clarence (Regina) Lippert, Timberlake, S.D.; 52 grandchildren; and 44 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, December 1979; son, Carl, in 1984; brothers and sisters, Jake, Jack, George, Lawrence, Mrs. John (Mary) Buettner, and Mrs. Bernard (Theresa) Brinkman.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.
