Stephen Martin and Sarah Cahela Martin were the parents of Sarah Jane Martin, wife of Samuel Isaac Burdett. . Sarah was born July 12, 1812; they were married Oct 15, 1854 in Dekalb Co., GA. His first was a Garrett, but not much else is known about her.
There's a long story to this one. As far as we all know he was married only twice. His first wife who was a Garrett evidently had a will. To try and shorten everything Stephen Martin would lose the inheritance for the children if he remarried or something like that. Anyway, he and Sarah lived together for many years before marrying. That would be why she was on the census as his wife. They did marry in 1854, I guess after the legal thing cleared.
