James is the nephew of my GGG-grandmother Nancy Tucker Shaw. She and Frances D. Tucker Pruitt are sisters.

James is the first cousin of Mary Ann Shaw Freeman who married Martin F. Freeman. ( my GG-grandparents )

Brooks, Joe killed by Frank Banks both negroes, at corn shucking on plantation of James B. Pruitt, 14 miles South of Anderson,SC last friday night.

Information below is from the Anderson Intelligencer paper in 1897
It seems there was a family reunion at the Pruitt Homeplace, the elderly James and Sara were surprised to see all their Children with their children, coming down the road in buggys and wagons bringing food for the dinner. Pictures were taken of a very large group standing in front of the Plantation House where James and Sara lived.

James was living in 1897 near the place where he was born. Martin Township 13 miles SE of Anderson.
He was the 7th child of William and Frances Pruitt.

The Pruitt family originally came from England

James and Sara had 6 sons and 5 daughters, one son died as an infant.

3. Robert William m. Minnie Riley
4. Mattie m. J.J. Findley
5. J. of Starr m. Lula Long died bef 1897
6. J.C. m Anna Major of Denver
7. E.J. m __ Scuddday of Anderson
8. Birdie m Oscar Bowie of Cooks
9. Miss Nina living at home with parents in 1897
10. Walter the youngest son was at home taking care of parents
There seems to be another daughter unknown.
