Married 3 times. Rachel Elizabeth Callham, Frances Hanks, and Florence Annie LaFoy. According to Confederate Veteran magazine, he was terribly wounded at the Battle of Petersburg during the Civil War. Walked home to Anderson, and when he was better, walked back to rejoin his unit. Was with General Joseph Johnston when the General surrendered to General Sherman in North Carolina in April of 1865.
