The Putnam Record, Hennepin, IL, Aug. 4, 1898:
"Died at home in Florid, Thursday evening, July 28, 1898, HENRY C. CLEMENS, aged 65 years, 2 months and 6 days. Deceased was born in Lebanon County, Penn., May 22, 1823; was united in marriage with Julian Ulrick November 16, 1852. She preceeded him to the better land a little over a year ago.
Not long after their marriage they united with the Lutheran church, of which he remained an ernest and faithful member unto death. They moved to Illinois in 1857. Six children were born to them, three sons and three daughters, of whom all but two sons remain to mourn their loss....Mr. Clemens was a man possessed of a kindly spirit, always ready to greet his friends with words of kindness; strictly honest in his dealings and loved by all. He will be greatly missed."
