PERU - Mary Ellen Albrecht (Traeger) Skelton of Peru passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010.
She was welcomed home by her savior and friend Jesus. She joined her first husband, Ernie Traeger; her daughter, Louise; husband, Bert Skelton; brothers, Paul and John; and many other friends and family preceding her to glory.
Mary Ellen was born in May of 1921 in rural Ohio, Ill., studied at Peoples Hospital in Peru (IVCH) and graduated with her RN in 1942 from Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
She served as a nurse at Peoples Hospital, Heritage Manor Nursing Home and Dr. Farley's office. She was a private duty for the Carus family before retiring in her late 70s.
A member of First Baptist Church of LaSalle since the 1940s, she served in many areas of ministry and made many friends.
She found great joy in her family and will be deeply missed by her children, Carolyn Snow Page (Jerry), Ernie Traeger (Wilma), Scott Skelton (Marcia), Nina Traeger Gortmaker (Jerry), Bruce Traeger (Becky), Heather Skelton Coyle (James) and Sam Skelton (Kim); 24 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is survived by three siblings, Robert Albrecht, Evangeline Guither and Dean Albrecht.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Mueller Funeral Home, 909 Pike in Peru. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 21, at First Baptist Church of LaSalle.
Memorials will be used to defray expenses.
