Evangeline M. Guither, age 94 of Walnut, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

Evangeline was born in Ohio, IL on April 23, 1923 to Henry and Harriet (Martin) Albrecht. She was a 1940 graduate of Ohio High School, attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and remained a lifelong participant in U of I Extension programs.

She joined the US Army Signal Corps during WWII, serving as a Teletype inspector at Western Electric where she met lifelong friends, Eddie and Ann Dell.

She was united in marriage to Marvin B. Guither on March 3, 1946 at Red Oak Church in rural Walnut, where they lived and worked the family farm. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1995.

Evangeline was a fourth-generation descendant of founders of Red Oak Church where she was a faithful lifetime member. She was a 72-year member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed being a school bus driver and an election judge for many years.

She and Marvin hosted many exchange students and then visited them all in a trip that included Japan, Hong Kong, Tasmania, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Iran, and Finland.

Evangeline deeply enjoyed her church activities, family vacations and reunions, her huge garden, fishing in Canada, and the coffee pot always on for family and friends.

Evangeline found great joy in her family and will be deeply missed by her five children, Jim (Nancy) Guither of Hudson, Kendall (Kathy) Guither of Walnut, Bonnie Guither of Tampa, Melanie (Mike) Alwes of Normal and Harry (Alice) Guither of Walnut; nine grandchildren, Margo (Phillip) Mire, Jennie (Tim) Cruze, Ben (Julie) Guither, Dan (Jana) Guither, Becky Alwes, Marc (Katie) Alwes, Jim Alwes, Eric Guither and Holly (fiancé, Ben Wilkinson) Guither; ten great-grandchildren, Andy and Adam Mire, Timber and Cade Cruze, Kepi and Vivian Guither, Olivia and Maggie Guither, Leah and Luke Alwes; one brother-in-law, Harold Guither; foster sister, Freda Martin; lifelong friend, Miriam Rosene; cousins and numerous, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son Dave Guither; son-in-law Lee Peabody; brothers Robert, Paul, John and Dean Albrecht; sister Mary Skelton and cousin, Clarence Attig.

Visitation will be Monday, May 22, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, Illinois. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Red Oak United Methodist Church, Walnut with Reverend Judy Giese officiating.

Services will conclude with burial at Red Oak Cemetery in rural Walnut.
