Louis A. Wood was the son of John Perry Wood and Rebecca Emyline Hibbs Wood. He was married to Lillie Hallmark Wood, and they had children Robert A. Wood, Paul Richard Wood and Eva Wood Newby.

Louis was a veteran of World War I.

Accident Fatal to Young Miner

Lewis Wood, Staunton, Crushed to death by Slate Cave in.

Brazil, Indiana, Sept. 13 (Special). Lewis Allen Wood, 39 years old, a well known miner and World War veteran of Staunton, was killed instantly about 9 o'clock this morning at the McClelland mine north of Riley when he was caught by a fall of slate.

Wood was at work in his room this morning when a large mass of slate became dislodged and fell, striking him on the back and fracturing the vertebrae. When fellow workmen rescued him from the mass of debris it was found that he was dead.

Wood had resided at Staunton practically all his life. During the World War he was a member of the ammunition train unit. He is survived by the widow and three children; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wood, Staunton, five brothers and five sisters. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Brazil, Indiana - Funeral services for Lewis Allen Wood who was killed instantly in a fall of slate at the McClelland mine north of Riley Saturday morning, will be held at the Christian Church at Staunton at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Burial will be in Summit Lawn Cemetery.
