Robert was the bachelor son of Daniel Phelps Chaney & Susan Snowden Chaney. He worked as a newspaper printer and publisher. Mr. Chaney and his brother, Park H. Chaney, founded the Irvine Times newspaper on January 1, 1920.

Mr. Chaney moved to Hazard, Kentucky and began work on another newspaper. He was found dead, in that city, beside the Kentucky River. A coroner's inquest was held. The jury ruled that the cause of death was drowning and that the manner of death was, possibly, homicide. After the verdict was recorded, Mr. Chaney's remains were sent to his family, in Estill County, for funeral services and interment.

IRVINE TIMES TO START PUBLICATION JANUARY 1.

A new weekly newspaper, the Irvine Times, will be published in Irvine beginning January 1. It will be Republican in politics and will be edited by Park Chaney. The mechanical work will be directed by Robert Chaney. Both of these men have had experience as country printers.

The Irvine Times.

Irvine now has two newspapers, the Irvine Times having appeared there January 6. Park Chaney and Robert J. Chaney are responsible for its existence. The Times is worthy of the support of the people of Estill county, if all succeeding issues are to be up to the intial number, and we are sure they will be. The Messrs. Chaney are Estill county products and for this reason alone they deserve to be specially encouraged.
