Daniel was the son of William & Nancy Keene Chaney. He married Susan Snowden, the daughter of Charles Christopher Snowden & and Minerva Frances Portwood Snowden, on February 14, 1883 in Madison County. The couple were the parents of Ottie Mae, Ida M., Robert J. and Park H. Chaney.

Their Chaney family lived in Madison, Estill and Jefferson Counties. Thoughtout the years, Mr. Chaney worked at a variety of occupations: Sewing machine agent, foreman on the river, house painter, meat market proprietor, timberman and land agent.

•Obituary-Daniel Phelps Chaney, 74 years old, Madison County, who died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leroy Alcorn, in Louisville, will be buried at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the cemetery at West Irvine. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. W.H. Tew.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Alsorn [sic Alcorn] and Mrs. Otto [sic Ottie] Montgomery, Irvine; two sons, Park Alcorn [sic Chaney], Detroit, and Robert Alcorn [sic Chaney], Irvine; a brother, Jack Chaney, Valley View, and three sisters, Mrs. Amanda Moran and Mrs. Alice Sanders, Madison County, and Mrs. Fannie Craig, Rantoul, Ill.
